In March of this year, Xiaopeng Motors launched a completely new version of the Xiaopeng G6, claiming that the R&D investment in the chassis alone reached 200 million yuan. The new car is also equipped with Xiaopeng's latest technologies, such as Turing AI driving and 5C supercharging AI battery. The starting price has also been reduced from the initial 209,900 yuan to 176,800 yuan. The new car broke through 5,000 units in just 7 minutes after its launch. It was thought that the Xiaopeng G6 was about to achieve a rebirth, but the actual sales were far below many people's expectations.

 

According to the sales data after the new model was launched, the sales of the new Xiaopeng G6 in its first full month (April) increased from 1,957 units to 5,485 units. However, in the following month (May), the sales did not increase but decreased to 5,500 units. In June, the situation improved slightly with sales reaching 5,749 units, but in July, it plummeted to 3,949 units. The sales fell by 31.3% month-on-month and 18% year-on-year. Although it is the latest model, it does not sell as well as the old model last year.

 

In terms of configuration, the Xiaopeng G6 does not perform poorly and even has a certain leading advantage in the same price range. However, consumers are not convinced. According to feedback from netizens, the biggest dissatisfaction with this car is its appearance. The Xiaopeng G6 is a "coupe-style" SUV, but its appearance does not highlight enough sporty atmosphere. On the contrary, it is criticized for its overly rounded body lines. The front face is not aggressive enough, the side is slightly bloated, and the most unacceptable part is the rear. Some people say that the Xiaopeng G6 looks more like a "big mouse" than Tesla, and it even looks like a piece of soap that has been used for several months. The overall style goes against the mainstream aesthetic of consumers, and many people lose the desire to further understand this car just by seeing the photos.

Nowadays, all major new energy brands have learned to "pile up configurations." For a budget of 200,000 yuan, the models that can be purchased basically have all the functions they should have. The credibility of Xiaopeng Motors was greatly affected.

 

If the damage to brand power is just a small matter, then the design defects of the new car are a big problem. Earlier this year, a large number of Xiaopeng MONA M03 car owners complained that the new car had "body resonance" and "low-frequency ear pressure" problems. When the vehicle is running, it is easy to cause ear discomfort. In severe cases, it can cause headaches, tinnitus, dizziness, and even hearing loss. After the car owners' feedback, they did not get an effective response and had to pay out of their own pockets to replace the new car's sealing strips to alleviate the resonance phenomenon, but they could not completely solve the problem.

 

After the incident was exposed, many users of other Xiaopeng models also said that they had similar problems. Even the Xiaopeng G6 received a lot of complaints. The model is from the same platform as the Xiaopeng G6, and both cars have an axle distance of 2890mm. However, the Xiaopeng G7 is larger in length, width, and height, and its appearance is more beautiful. With richer configurations and more prominent intelligence, the starting price of the Xiaopeng G7 is only 195,800 yuan, which is cheaper than the high-end version of the Xiaopeng G6, and the price range is almost overlapping.

 

Now, the Xiaopeng G6 car owners have just accepted the "backstabbing" of the price reduction, and now they have to face the impact of the new product. Old car owners are bound to feel "abandoned." For new users, if the budget is not particularly tight, they will naturally prioritize the Xiaopeng G7. This further compresses the market share of the Xiaopeng G6, and the decline in sales is not surprising.

 

In fact, from the overall sales situation of the Xiaopeng Motors brand, the only model that really sells well is the Xiaopeng MONA M03. Models such as Xiaopeng P7+, Xiaopeng G6, and Xiaopeng G9 are "all bark and no bite" in the market. The new cars are highly concerned, but few people are willing to pay for them. Relatively speaking, the performance of the Xiaopeng G6 is not bad. However, according to He Xiaopeng, the Xiaopeng G6 is not a successful product.

Xiaopeng, which originally insisted on the pure electric route, seems to want to change its strategy.
